Namit Malhotra: From Garage Dreams to Ramayana Glory

Celebrating the visionary producer behind India’s most ambitious cinematic epic

🌱 Humble Beginnings, Monumental Vision

Namit Malhotra’s journey is the stuff of legend. Born into a family steeped in cinematic tradition—his father, Naresh Malhotra, a producer, and his grandfather, MN Malhotra, a pioneering cinematographer—Namit was destined to leave a mark. But he didn’t ride on legacy alone. He carved his own path, starting with a modest post-production studio in his father’s garage.

Armed with a single Apple Mac and boundless ambition, Namit co-founded Video Workshop with three of his computer graphics instructors. The studio handled editing for popular Indian TV shows like Boogie Woogie and Gaatha, eventually merging with his father’s business to form Prime Focus.

🚀 From Prime Focus to Hollywood’s Elite

Prime Focus quickly evolved from a local post-production house to a global media services powerhouse. In 2014, Namit orchestrated a game-changing merger with UK-based VFX giant Double Negative (DNEG). This move catapulted him into the global spotlight, with DNEG delivering jaw-dropping visuals for films like:

  • Blade Runner 2049
  • Tenet
  • Dune and Dune: Part Two

Over the past decade, DNEG has won eight Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, making Namit one of the most influential Indians in Hollywood.

🎥 Ramayana: A Dream 10 Years in the Making

In 2015, Namit began conceptualizing a live-action adaptation of the Ramayana. His goal? To present Indian mythology with the same reverence and cinematic scale as global epics like Oppenheimer or Forrest Gump. After years of planning, filming began in 2023, and the first glimpse released in 2025 left audiences stunned.

The trailer is a visual symphony—each frame a testament to Namit’s dedication, each moment a masterstroke of storytelling.

🌟 Cast & Crew: A Celestial Lineup

The film boasts a stellar cast:

  • Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram
  • Sai Pallavi as Sita
  • Yash as Ravana
  • Sunny Deol as Hanuman
  • Ravi Dubey as Lakshman

Supporting roles include Amitabh Bachchan, Kajal Aggarwal, Lara Dutta, and Vikrant Massey. The film is co-produced by Yash and features production design by Hollywood veterans Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery.

🎶 Music That Transcends Borders

For the first time ever, Oscar-winning legends Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman have joined forces to score the film. Their music elevates the trailer to a spiritual experience, weaving emotion and grandeur into every note.

🌍 A Cultural Milestone

More than a film, Ramayana is a cultural movement. It’s being shot in IMAX and will release in two parts—Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027. With a budget of ₹835 crore, it’s India’s most expensive film to date.

Namit’s vision is clear: to make India proud and inspire the world with timeless storytelling. His journey from a garage to global acclaim is proof that dreams, when pursued with conviction, can reshape history.

🙏 Our Salute to the Visionary

As we await the release of Ramayana, we celebrate Namit Malhotra—not just for his cinematic genius, but for his unwavering belief in the power of Indian stories. May this film become a beacon of excellence and a source of pride for generations to come.

Jai Shri Ram. The world is watching.
